Firstly not a fan of the Alladin Sane glam stuff. Let's Dance is commercial pop shite.as is the rest as follows.
For me the genius was from Station to Station to Scary Monsters. StoS and Heroes being seminal albums and hugely influential. Golden Years and Secret Life of Arabia being my personal favourites.
But even saying that for every Bowie album you find 2-3 great tracks and a lot of pretty poor stuff. He was aided by his collaborations with top muscians like Eno, Peter Fripp and Carlos Almodovar.
But lets not forget his production and writing influence on Lou Reed's Transformer , Iggy Pop and Grace Jones.
Yeah overall he was pretty fucking good.

I came late to Bowie. Obviously always knew of him as a kid but Ziggy Stardust and Aladin Sane scared the hell out of me.
The biggest hit I knew of his as a kid was 'Let's Dance' but I never knew a lot of him before that.
Now I am getting on a bit the last 10 years has seen me go back to uncover stuff I never knew and Bowie has become my absolute favourite of all time.
The range and diversity of his albums and tracks is unmatched for me. I don't use the word a lot as I play down peoples greatness but I think the word genius can be used for him.

I have grown to appreciate him over time. He was more calculated than just evolving with the creativity as he was desperate especially in the early days to find a way to be famous. I was much more a fan of Bolan who likewise was driven to be famous. Bowie made some great music though

Saw him in Oxford Town Hall 1972 just when Ziggy Stardust was released. Hunky Dory is a great album..

Some great records for a decade or so, best period for me was low to scary monsters. I'd say his work is several layers deeper than that of slade or T-Rex.

"Heroes is utter genius".
Talking of unsung 'heroes', how much of the success of that song was down to that simple but brilliant contribution from Robert Fripp?

Wasn't it Bowie's idea to do Dancing in the Street with Jagger?
I hated that cover. It's embarrassing watching them in that video.
Hunky Dory is a good album though.

He was alright.
Made some decent records but not the genius some folk make him out to be.
No better than T Rex or Slade.

He was a nonce who made dreary self indulgent shit music.
People of a certain age only like him cos of nostalgia. No one who didn't grow up in the 70s actually likes him.

Don't know what it was, but just none of his music ever done anything for me at all.
Bit like anything done by bands similar to the likes of Duran Duran and spandau, thought all of that stuff was very meh.
Shame, as thought Bowie was a quality bloke who deserved better from me!!!

Jim Bowie was not that nice a person. He was a slave smuggler and had a knife named after him. He played a role in the establishment of Texas. He died in bed at the Alamo

Born in Brixton, South London, Bowie developed an interest in music as a child. He studied art, music and design before embarking on a professional career as a musician in 1963.
From Wiki. Not that it matters a toss, not trying to score any points.
